Burlington Northern Equipment Roster
The Burlington Northern Railroad utilized 18 miles of Joppa Sub trackage to gain access to Metropolis, IL and points south across the Ohio River. The interlocking plants of Neilson Junction and West Vienna Junction therefore saw numerous BN coal trains, and daily locals from Centralia to Metropolis, IL. This allows the inclusion of some BN power and coal trains to simulate this traffic. BN ran 4-5 coal trains daily through this corridor, along with some general merchandise (Centralia-Metropolis local ) and even some TOFC trains...called "Expeditors". Although I had previously had numerous BN trains planned...I have since scaled it back to a more-manageable roster. Atlas and Kato engines make up the BN roster at this time. Mainly GP40's and GP35's with a few U30C's and an SD40-2. These train movements will be automated with computer control.
Today, Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe still utilize the trackage rights agreement, as both roads still haul coal down through these interlocking plants.
